Just for fun, I’m linking up with a few of the blogs I read every morning to join their What’s Up Wednesday… Gives me a good way to record what we’ve been up to!
What We’re Eating This Week
I’ve written “make meal plan” on my to do list every day for the last four days and haven’t done it yet. Which is not good. But it also meant last night was hey, it’s breakfast for dinner night after I dug through our cupboards and found some chocolate chip pancake mix I received as a Christmas gift. Totally made it look like I planned the whole thing. We also cooked up some bacon and had a good laugh at how totally lame some of the pieces looked – DOES THAT EVEN COUNT AS BACON???
(No. The answer is NO.)
What I’m Reminiscing About
My son is quickly catching up to me in height, so I keep thinking about how cute and small and energetic he was as a toddler… kept me on my toes, but I miss it too. Although, he’s pretty cool at this age too. Always ready to help me (well, maybe not always…) and ready for adventure. Love my kiddos.
What I’m Loving
Currently I’m loving my January tumbler from Starbucks. In December, Starbucks sells a tumbler for $40, and you can bring it in for free coffee or hot tea every day in January. I ask for it every year for a Christmas gift, and enjoy the coffee all January long. One year I figured out if you got at least 14 cups of coffee, you make up for the $40 cost… 20 visits and you basically paid back the $40 fee, more than that and now you’re getting free coffee. Yes, I make sure I move into Free Coffee Territory. 🙂
What We’ve Been Up To
We desperately need new kitchen cabinets (doors have been known to fall off and there’s a hole in one of them because of our former dog) and our bathroom upstairs. However, we also are really determined not to go into debt or add to our mortgage (because I have the goal of paying it off in four years -more about that later), so we’re trying to figure out ways to redo the rooms step by step. You can’t cut corners on plumbing and electric, obviously, but what are other ways we could cut back and try to do it ourselves. I’ll admit my attitude is one of “meh… nothing’s permanent, just try it and if we hate it, we’ll do it again!” while my husband’s is more of a “THIS IS A BIG DECISION” attitude. This makes for 1. interesting uh… conversations and 2. lots of chances for compromise, but 3. really a lot of fun when we can come together in agreement and make it happen. So far we’ve removed a cabinet I wanted gone for forever, and yay! my idea was good and he likes it! So on we go to the next step.
We also made a quick downtown overnight trip to have a little break after the holidays, because we realized we hadn’t taken a break and gotten to relax at all. We booked a room at the London House in Chicago and love love loved it. It’s a boutique hotel owned by Hilton and at $99 a night, the price was perfect. Recommend it highly!!!
Just realize, it faces directly at this 😉
but if you turn your head a bit, it’s a beautiful view of the river.
What I’m Dreading
What I’m Working On
I’m back to scheduling my podcast! I’m excited to keep going with it – just had to take a break because a couple things popped up, which made me stop and think, hmmm…. maybe this isn’t the best time to be doing this? But that thought just made me frustrated and sad – and what better way to cure sadness than to drink more coffee? So I drank more coffee, got caffeinated and back to business. Look for podcast episodes soon! Check out past ones HERE.
What I’m Excited About
Next month is my birthday month! I hate getting older, but I do love a fun February! This weekend I am going on a road trip with my daughter and son – I’m looking forward to having fun and getting away!
What I’m Watching/Reading
We just finished up The Crown. Although slow moving, I did really enjoy it and would recommend it. You can stream it on Netflix. I’ve also been watching Kevin Can Wait and The Middle – both family sitcoms that I want to support because it’s so rare to have shows you all can watch!
I’ve recently read Tribe by Sebastian Junger – would recommend, but it is based largely on the theory of evolution, but replace that, and it’s interesting (and logically, it does fit with the idea of tribe/community as shown in the Old Testament – but I guess that’s the nerd part of me coming out to say that… so just read it for what it’s worth.)
What I’m Listening To
and Wes Montgomery are my go-to winter music.
What I’m Wearing
So I made the decision to not buy any new clothes for the month of January, to force me to wear what I have on hand and to look at what I have – because if I’m not wearing it, why is it in my closet??? And trust me, yes, it’s been a little hard to not buy new things – not v. hard, just a littttttle hard. Good discipline for this spur of the moment person who doesn’t always think things through. (Refer back to what I said under the kitchen cabinets heading…:) )
What I’m Doing This Weekend
As I said, we’re going on a road trip – to see Twenty One Pilots! So excited!!
What Else Is New
Nothing! It’s Wednesday in the middle of January! What else can I possibly say except: OH MY WORD, PLEASE SNOW, JANUARY!!! This rain and dreariness is killing my soul. #dramatic #ineedsnow #itssouglyoutside
