April Wrap-Up: Thanks for the tax season and the snow and the cold and the more snow, April! See ya!
April was good – some fun times with friends, including being able to have coffee last night with a friend I haven’t seen in about ten years! Celebrating Easter and our daughter’s birthday – all fun.
Usually I’m reading about five books at once, but lately, I’ve finished the ones I was working on and am only reading one right now. It’s an anomaly.
Z: A Novel about Zelda Fitzgerald… starting out really well-written. Obviously it’s about F Scott Fitzgerald’s wife, Zelda – an interesting couple, to say the least.
Gideon by Phyllis Shirer…doing this Bible Study on my own and really enjoying it and recommend it.
We just started watching the first season of House. I like it so far – basically a medical drama (oh no! he/she is dying/having a seizure/has a rash, let’s solve it in an hour), but the attraction here is obviously Dr House, a man struggling with addiction to pain medication, no bedside manner whatsoever and a harsh sense of humor.
I use the app called Songza and LOVE it. I keep telling people about it and they’re starting to respond with, “yes, um, I think you told me about that already…” Anyway, Songza starts out by having you click the “concierge” button and it brings up a screen like this:
You click on one and then it will give you genre choices such as, indie pop, folk, etc. Great playlists. My favorite for when we’re eating dinner is called Coffee Shop Sway and it’s through this we discovered the awesome song “Sophie Roux.” My son and I LOVE this song and I hear him singing it to himself a lot. Download it nowwww. I also discovered Madeleine Peyroux, a beautiful jazz voice. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Anyway, three cheers for Songza! My one negative is that you can’t censor/set a “parental” control on the playlists (although, there are sometimes playlists that say “SFW” (Safe For Work)).
Since we didn’t go anywhere for spring break, we did an overnight trip to Chicago to celebrate our daughter’s birthday and had such a good time. Her requests were to go out to breakfast at Yolk, shop at WaterTower Place and swim at the hotel. Check, check and check.
Bonus fun: There is a Cupcake ATM by Sprinkles now…which is kinda fun. That being said, it malfunctioned when we were there. No bueno. We walked past the NBC Tower and saw Steve Harvey taping his show outside, and we ate at Bubba Gump’s Shrimp at Navy Pier, where I defeated Husband in the Forrest Gump Trivia our waiter was giving us. I won, because I just answered everything with “Jenny.
The next day we toured the Shedd Aquarium. There’s been improvements in the past few years, and the show is great, but I always leave there disappointed and surprised how much it costs for a few hours. I don’t know…maybe I’m missing the excitement of looking at fish.
