I love hearing stories of people’s lives, and stories that remind me that kids have always been little rascals – even if they look so sweet in the black and white photos. Here’s a story of my kids’ Great-Grandmother Glerum (on my husband’s side of the family):
When Alice was about 6 she went to see a circus with her dad and brother. There she saw tumblers who did many fancy tricks and leaps.
Alice was impressed and later at home she decided to try one of the tricks. She sat on the floor and raised one leg in front and put her foot behind her head….easy…then the other leg.”Wow” she said, “I could be in the circus!”
However, when Alice tried to get her legs down they wouldn’t budge. Yikes! She pulled and rolled and wiggled…but still couldn’t get untwisted.
She called for help and cried, but even her mom couldn’t get her legs down. Finally they called the fire department to come help rescue Alice. They came, and after considerable tugging she was free.
A very tearful and embarrassed Alice decided not to be in the circus.
Ed. Note: When she grew up, Alice and her husband were missionaries in Nigeria for many years. Kinda cool that the Lord uses us rascals for His glory!
