This is a guest post by Kelli’s brother, Jeff
This here blog of my sister’s was a present to her from her uncle, sometimes knwon as “Roger,” so she would have a place to keep track of lists. As you may know, before Al Gore and the internet, Kelli had a notebook obsession where she would keep track of stuff. She got this obsession from her father, who also loved notebooks and filled them with cool looking stuff.
When we went on vacation one year our dad bought us notebooks and we sat in a hotel and divided them up into the following sections: Trip Journal, Lifetime Goals, and the Dispensations of the Bible.
One time our dad had this idea that we were going to learn Greek after supper. So he bought us all three-ring binders (just as cool as a notebook) and copied out Greek lessons in it. That one didn’t go over real well. We used one page before he gave up in exasperation.
However, the notebook thing endures. My daughters adore notebooks. My eldest daughter has notebooks all over the place with various lists and maps and various other things usually revolving around the theme of “girls rock.”
It is nice to see the tradition being passed on. I have always wondered if there was a notebook gene. There is also an obsession among certain members of our family with buying new underwear, but I’ll leave that for another day. This gene has also passed on to one of my children. It’s always good to have new underwear in your genes. Amen.
