One time – not so long ago – I got reprimanded from someone for my sense of humor. I was so mad about it that I promised to never be funny again in my whole entire life. Then I retracted that statement and declared that I would make a list of ten people to whom I would still be funny to/with. And then I had to retract that statement when I accidentally made the grocery store clerk laugh at something I said. She started laughing and I said (out loud), “Shoot. You’re laughing” She stopped laughing then.
So then I declared that the game was on and I would just be myself. Because that’s just the way I look at things and because in one of my last conversations with my dad (before he was in the hospital), he said to me, “Kelli, you are more fun than a barrel of monkeys.” Which, when I think about it, is a strange comparison to make, but it’s one he told me throughout my life. SO, now in my life, I am sorta proud of the fact that things make me laugh.
The sad thing is that sometimes people think those of us who have a sense of humor don’t take things seriously. In my opinion, the opposite is true. I think a sense of humor shows a healthy outlook on life and life’s stupidities. I take things very seriously, but I also don’t think it’s my job to bring everyone around me down into the dumps. You are to encourage one another! And what better way than to bring a smile to someone’s face? Just make sure you use your powers of humor for good and not for evil. That’s what I am trying to teach my little Spidey.
Why I’m thinking about that, I’m not sure. But I hope you have a smile at my little Spiderman. Be encouraged.
