Here are my old faithful Sauconys.
They’ve been with me for quite some time… as in, remember this little fiasco? ? Or this Thankful Day race? My cute Sauconys were with me through it all. However, it is recommended that you replace shoes every 350(ish) miles, and these have been with me for about 500… give or take a few. Now, for most serious racers, this means new shoes every six months or so… for me, yeah, it takes, like, years. Last night I was able to use my Christmas gift cards my grandma got me to our fave little running shoe store (and my husband’s gift, too, bless his heart) and buy some replacement shoes.
They aren’t as pretty or as cute or as friendly, but they were the most comfortable, and I always tend to buy Saucony. It does create a quandry for me… do I get rid of the old ones? Or do I keep them for sentiment’s sake and because they symbolize so many things? Like feeling like the stupidest runner in the race? Or do I discard them and just replace with the new?
New, Flashy Shoes: “Yo, whaddup? You the old guys? Why don’t you move your sorry little laces outta my way?”
Old, Faithful Shoes: “But… but… we’ve done so much for her.”
“Heh Heh Heh…”
So, what do you think? Do you throw things out when they’re old and done with? Do you save things out of sentimentality? Are you a pack rat? Are you a saver? Thrower outer? What would you do?
