Did you hear there’s a new drink at Starbucks?
It’s called the Flat White and apparently it traveled over to America from Australia where it’s already been on the Starbucks menu for quite some time (since the ’80’s).
A friend of ours from church brought it up as soon as I saw him – and we decided it would be our post-lunch treat. We made my husband document it.
Because why not.
So the Flat White is basically what it says on this here sign:
Who knew? Apparently – based on my super in-depth google research – ristretto means “restricted” in Italian, which means this is coffee extracted with about half the water normally used. So it’s a double shot of this with microfoam – which is velvety, steamed milk with tiny bubbles. This is supposed to let the espresso speak.
(I made up that speak thing. But it sounds good, doesn’t it?)
If you’re gonna be snippy about it, it’s basically coffee with some foamed milk on top .
The taste was…flat.
The foam was….white.
If you’ve had a latte, it was a latte like that…hahaha…like my pun?
Will I have it again? Nope. My skinny vanilla latte treat will remain my treat.
Was it good? Yep. Just not quite good enough for a treat drink.
Was it fun checking it off our WE MUST DO THIS IN 2015 LIST? Absolutely.
