Instagram is a strange bird. I won’t allow my kids on it and I’m not sure I totally want to be on it either. There’s some pretty random pictures floating around that you have no choice but to see. “Your butt is amazing, attention granted.”
However, one thing I want to get better at is picture taking. My husband is a pro. He wouldn’t say he is, but he is. And so when the kids were little, I got into the habit of just letting him be the documenter of trips, baby pictures and nature shots, etc. I just had too much to do already what with chasing kids around and frankly, it was one less thing on my plate. However, now I’ve got the handy dandy iPhone 6 and the camera is super easy to work and I have no excuses for not spending a little time documenting our life.
One thing I found this year was a monthly challenge for instagram pictures, which seemed motivating. And I don’t have a lot of “followers” or people I know over there, so it seemed like a good place to just put up some fun stuff without feeling like I’m bugging people!
I try not to be too picky about the picture quality, but yet I’m trying to make this the place where I work on lighting, framing, cropping, and all that fun stuff that my short attention span usually doesn’t want to think about. I don’t put a lot of our face pictures up there (because it seems more creepy in InstaWorld), more general shots, and it’s been good practice for me. But I’ve ended up with lots more pictures on my phone of the kids because I’m taking my phone out more to take in the moment pictures. I love that I have these things documented.
Are you on instagram? Like it? Not like it? Are you a good photog?
